Workers Comp Medical Care Policies

While you are waiting for your workers comp claim to be approved, you will need to navigate the medical protocol that is enforced in the state where you live and work. Adequate medical care should be sought soon after a work-related injury has occurred.

Emergency Care

Emergency care should be sought, even if you initially think that an injury is minor. A workers comp claim will go through an assessment process. This process determines whether or not an applicant's claim is valid. Acquiring emergency care will provide you with the documentation needed to substantiate your claim.

Acquiring medical treatment in a timely manner will also support a speedier recovery than if you were to fail to receive medical care or only receive a limited amount of care. If you do not have medical insurance, visiting your local emergency room is an option. Your employer may be mandated to cover your care services until a claim determination is made.

Service Providers

The state that you live and work in may or may not allow you to choose your medical care service provider. The workers comp guidelines that pertain to your case should be reviewed by you in entirety. In some jurisdictions, it is up to the employer to decide upon which medical providers will render services to those who have filed a workers comp claim. If you are given a choice of which doctor will provide you with care services, take your time to learn about various health clinics and private doctors' offices.

You want to be certain that the medical provider from who you seek services is someone who you trust fully. Your doctor should be provided with an accurate description of the symptoms you are experiencing. It is important to be truthful about each symptom, even those that you initially don't think are serious.

Your doctor will document your medical condition, plus will perform many testing and examination processes that will aid with a full recovery. In some workers comp claim cases, a medical provider will be required to submit testimony during a court hearing.

If you forge an honest and open relationship with your medical provider, they will be able to validate your medical condition. Your medical provider will be a key player in determining when you will be eligible to return to work. They may decide if you will need to be provided with modified working conditions or if you will be able to resume all of your original work duties.
